Doxycycline

Doxycycline is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of bacterial infections. It works by slowing down the multiplication of bacteria present in your body therefore making it possible for your immune system to fight off the infection. In some cases doxycycline is prescribed to treat and prevent malaria. If you have to take this drug for this condition your dosing schedule is going to be different – typically taking doxycycline a couple of days before gong to the country where you can get malaria and taking it for a month after you have come back, but not for longer than 4 months. Do not keep any secrets from your doctor – some drug interactions are very serious and you shouldn’t combine doxycycline with any of the following unless your health care provider is aware of your intention to do so: vitamins, penicillin, phenobarbital, antacids, phenytoin, carbamazepine, anticoagulants. Getting any of the following mild side effects is normal and you can carry on with your treatment in case of having any of them: vomiting, vaginal discharge, vaginal itching, stomach upset, swollen tongue, mild nausea, trouble swallowing, sores inside your mouth, or diarrhea.
